Excalibur.

In Arthurian legend Excalibur is the sword that was embedded in the stone, and as Arthur pulled it from its prison he was given the power to become king, he was flooded with a sense of power and majesty he didn't realize he possessed before that moment. The sword gave him strength to do what was right for himself and the world. The metal gleamed in the sunlight reflecting his image, but he could suddenly see a world of possibilities that he has never before considered. He saw a oung man filled with courage and compassion.

It was an amazing paramount moment in his life to suddenly see himself more clearly in the blade of a sword that carried his destiny that he had ever seen in the mirror or passing my a body of water. This sword didn't take away his fear, but embolden it letting him embrace hmself for all that he was and all that he ever would be.

Most people think that Excalibur was powerful because it was a sword that couldn't be bested by any enemy, but I don't really think that's the case. I think that the sword was a mere catalyst for the potential that was already brewing inside of Arthur since he was a child.

The pen is mightier than the sword is an age old adage that is so incredibly true. Words can be a catalyst of anything, hope, fear, courage, anger, hatred. Words have the power to cut deeper than any blade could cast itself. They can main someone beyond recognition and inflame the soul with a fire that can never be put out.Words can be a weapon that rips you in half, they can make you cry out with shame or hot tears of sorrow.

But then words carry hope. They carry emotions from people thousands of years ago scribed down to reach across the generations and suddenly you can connect with someone you will never meet, because the echoes of their emotions stir within you a reaction you can't deny. You feel a powerful empathy as you can see the life of someone who has been gone for a time you can't yet comprehend. Humanity is written across time with words that fill your head.

Words can pull people from pain and hurt that can't be explained, but merely understood as our hearts ache for someone you have never met crying out with grief, their raw throat wanting to scream but only sobs escaping; your jaw quivers as a character in a book is lost forevermore.

Words are the blue of a cold bitter winter's morning, the comfort of a mothers touch when your head is hot with a fever you hope will break soon. Words are there when you meet your soul mate , or when you hold your baby in your arms for the first time seeing its toothless smile and eyes light up in recognition of love.

Words are the hot spew of frustration after a long day when you feel like nothing could make the day any worse.

Words are all that is the past, words are the potential for the future and the path laid out before you. Your destiny.

Words entangle themselves in my mind creating the most intricate puzzle across the  They move me with a force of untold power, pushing me further every single day of my life. I am a compilation of words, feelings and thoughts swirling together with no particular pattern filling out my features with a poise that only words can posess.

I see you, a mass of memories. Memories that have led you to where you are at now, and in these memories are words that have followed you around your entire existence pushing you forward, guiding you towards a future filled with uncertainty but filled with potential all the same.

Words are my Excalibur, giving me a courage I need to face life. Providing with with an assurance that it is okay to be scared of the road that lies ahead of me.

The pen is mightier than the sword because while we can see our reflection glaring back at us from the cool metal, words show us who we are through the trials of life. The pen is mightier than the sword because while battles and wars may be won with a sword rushing towards it's opponent words follow us all. The good, the bad, the cowardly the cruel. Words are powerful because they can reach where weapons cannot. Our souls.

Requiem Of A Nightmare.

There is a fever building inside of me. I can feel it building in my head, words rolling like an oncoming storm I can't run from. I force my eyes open to try to keep the flood of images assaulting my mind at bay to no avail. I don't want to see what I know is about to happen. I want to pretend that the words that have been penned down are forever and the end is just a nightmare I can't escape from.

The world of creativity is closing its once open doors to me until I give in to what the muses have thrown at me. I want to say no to them, but I know they are right. It is time to say goodbye to characters my heart holds so dearly. It is time to write their last words and imagine that once I am done their live will continue. I imagine grand-children and weddings. Car-wrecks and anniversarys. But not for me. For me it is time to part with my beloved friends. It is time I give them the freedom to run their own lives.

But it hurts. It hurts to say goodbye and end a story. I can see it so vividly though, the colors clashing violently with one another, the sounds that are fighting for dominion in my ears. I can feel the thick air of the last page trying to choke me with desperation and pleas for it not to be over.

It is a bittersweet romance with words I have found my self falling into. They caress my soul with the tenderest of touches, letting me know they are always their to comfort, and love me. But then towards the end of writing a novel the caress becomes a vice grip, a worry that I share. Is this about to be over? Must we say goodbye?

Someone once told me if you love something set it free. And maybe I am incredibly selfish but I find it ever so hard to do so. I want to crawl into the warm expanse of endless words and paragraphs and lay beneath the same sun my protagonist is seeing. But I don't. I am tell them this is the end. It is over for now.

Our entangled lives need to part so we can continue our journey. But an ache develops inside of my chest, how can I say it's over? How can I possibly bear to leave this magical world that holds such beauty?

I am not throwing our time together away, but rather cherishing the moments shared and knowing when to say goodbye. I will always love my characters and the adventures that brought us together whether it has been tears of laughter, rage or depression. We have made it through battles and fought together when the wind carried plot devices even I didn't realize was coming.

The nightmare is over, I have awakened and yet the requiem plays on. My journey with Voda has ended and through my tears I can somehow make out a new adventure resting just over the horizon.

Bye Bye Brady!

Home is where the heart is, and my heart certainly resides with my incredible family. My mom has always been, is always, and always will be my best friend. the first person I turn to when I need support or even just a hug. She is the only one I want to pamper me when I am sick and most likely the only person who I can argue with for hours and at the end of the day laugh and giggle with one another like school kids. My mom is the type of person that will have a broken ankle and still be doing stuff that needs to be done. She is my role model if you will.

My dad is the person that motivates me. He pushes me to do better by expecting more out of me than anyone else which makes me work harder. He has the driest sense of humor (you would swear he was British) and the best cooking skills ever. My dad is the guy who will let me know when a plot is south bound or when I have begun to look sickly from a lack of the outside world (we all have been there at some point, don't try and deny it). He is a jokester, a friend, a confidant, and the best dad I could have ever wished for. Both of my sisters are artistic and bright and make me a happier person (generally, sometimes not so much in the morning though).

And recently as a family we made a HUGE decision! We have decided to move from Eureka Springs, Arkansas to Denver, Colorado! That is over 1,000 miles to trek across with our belongings.

Though my heart is with my family, I couldn't help but over the years I have lived in this incredible town lose a little of myself to the incredible atmosphere and people.
Eureka is a small town of only 2,000 people. Artistic people that love any excuse there is to throw a parade and dress up! The old Victorian town has been filled with colors and laughter of generations of families who have found their slice of heaven on earth in the Ozark mountains.
All of the old buildings are works of art in an d of themselves, fantastic stone work and hand etched windows line the shops of downtown Eureka Springs. The stars shine above the buildings peeking through the vast amount of trees that line our little windy town.

Eureka also happens to be home to the Crescent Hotel, the third most haunted hotel in North America. Creepy right? Built in 1886 it has been everything from a hospital, a bowling alley, a school, and now a hotel. It has gone through murders, fires, suicides and tragic accidents. And now people pay on a regular basis to have their weddings there. :)

I have made life long friends and made memories that are forever etched inside my head.

I have been eaten by vicious zombies ( also known s my little sister) amidst a zombie crawl.

Stunning scenery that lifts your spirit with the wind.
Halloween is never a boring sight. Colors and lights can be seen lighting up the night sky.

Eureka is a town fond of parades, and I am fond of the people in them.

Eureka! Means I found it, and for many people they have found their home. They have found a town that is all about expressing themselves. A town that celebrates creativity and being unique. Eureka to me is a place that will always make me smile, a place I know is enveloped in love and bright colors.

Eureka is the birthplace of most of my novel ideas, and my inspiration for a few of them. I am grateful to have called it my home for the past five years. But I am looking forward to filling my head with brand new memories I can carry with me wherever I go.

The Soundtrack To My Life... Or Rather My Characters Lives.

For me music is a huge part of my life, and needless to say my writing. It helps me set a mood and environment for my manuscripts and has the uncanny ability to put me in a cheery mood after a long day.

Recently while working on my Sci-Fi novel my musical tastes have strayed from that of the normal Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald.

Here are a few of the songs that have helped me form the book I am currently working on!

Somebody To Trick by Fossils of Ancient Robots

The electronic beats immediately draw to mind the futuristic setting of the world I am piecing together in my head. The world encased in metal, so many lights that night has been forgotten, humanity being of a slightly different meaning now.

My Friend The Devil by Audra Mae and The Almighty Sound

Did I mention how eclectic my preferences in music are? The throaty voice of Audra Mae symbolizes everything I need to bring to life one of my characters who has a penchant for playing with things she shouldn't and not caring about the consequences that will surely follow.

I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie

One of my favorite bands Death Cab For cutie never fails to write slow melodies that relieve any tension from my mind and replacing them with beautiful imagery that takes me to undiscovered worlds and ethereal lands filled with rivers of words, trees of hopes, and the end that is too bittersweet.

Mad World by Gary Jules

I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad that the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.
The borderline heartbreaking tune managed to attach itself to a part of my soul that appears to be masochistic as I imagine the chaotic depression inside of a child who just can't seem to belong. Which is one of the reasons I love YA so much is because that is what essentially most YA books are about, finding where your own voice and a place to feel special.

Colours by Grouplove

This upbeat song helps find and define the unique voices of all of my characters as they take part in witty and sometimes not so witty banter to ease the tension of the despair of not knowing how everything will turn out just yet.

Well I hope everyone enjoyed these songs I shared today! Maybe one day these songs could be apart of an actual soundtrack to the movie of one of my books. ;)

Goals lofty I myself find having. -- I am watching Star Wars right now and needed to talk like Yoda at least once today.

Thank you all for putting up with my nonsense! Have a lovely Sunday Funday!

Atlantis At Last!

Lexi Brady
Follow Me On Twitter

A lot of my writing correlates to things that are going on in my own life and things that I find myself curious about. So when I heard about the crystal pyramids that were found in the Bermuda Triangle I went on a frenzy of doing research and writing!

When discoveries like this are made the nerd in me screams for me to obsess over it, which of course I do. What could this mean for our history? Or more importantly, is this the lost Atlantis? The "fabled" city so many have dreamt of?

As a child I would pretend to be a mermaid hailing from the lost city any time I went swimming, which of course aggravated anyone I was with since I simply refused to break character. Which is how I am now as an author. You have heard of method actors, yes? Well I suppose you could say I am a method writer, still refusing to break character.

I love putting myself into my characters situations or visiting places that they live. It helps me understand their personality and motivations better. Sometimes when I can't visit the place my character is from, or put myself in the same situation I do something crazy. Like dyeing my hair purple... Because I am certain mermaids have colorful hair.

I think it is incredibly important to have something in common with your characters. It helps them come to life as you can look back on your own experiences or feelings about something.  Maybe I didn't NEED to dye my hair to know what being a mermaid is like. But what would the fun have been in just imagining it?

Being a mermaid is different than I had imagined as a child. As a child all I could imagine was a colorful tail and the ability to talk to fish. Now that I am older I see that they are so much more than that. They are daring and intelligent beings that have no fear of what they cannot see. A yearning for the life in the sun and respect for all creatures living or gone.

Mermaids and hair aside I think that this is one of the biggest discoveries ever and am so stoked for more details about the pyramid!

I hope all of you are having wonderful weekends filled happiness!

Live Long and Prosper,

Lexi

“I must be a mermaid, Rango. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living.”

Anaïs Nin
**Yes I realize I am saying mermaids exist in this post... But really can you prove they don't?
*** Yes.. I also know I gave myself away as a Trekkie. But honestly who isn't?
